Types of Training/Expenses Covered

Training can be short term (e.g., 1-12 months) or can involve obtaining a master’s degree or doctoral degree at the University of Pittsburgh. Candidates who receive training in support of research for a master’s or PhD degree at a Brazilian institution (“sandwich” training) will be considered to be short-term trainees. Short-term training can be performed at any laboratory worldwide, as long as the requirements below are met. For short-term training, candidates can be at the pre-degree (e.g., pre-doctoral or pre-masters), doctoral, or post-doctoral level. Senior investigators will be considered for training if the training involves new methods that will assist the careers of young scientists who are mentored by the investigator.

The Pitt GIDRTP covers all expenses related to the training, including:

  1. Obtaining passport and visa
  2. Airfare and other transportation
  3. Living expenses
  4. For students applying to a degree program, study materials for the Test of English as a Foreign Language and the Graduate Register Examination will be provided
  5. For students who enroll in a masters or doctoral degree program at the University of Pittsburgh, tuition, books, laptop, and other expenses will be covered
